During September 2009, the Chelsea Painters had national teacher, writer and lecturer, Betsy Dillard Stroud from Scottsdale,  AZ teach a four-day workshop.   She is the author of Painting from the Inside Out, with her most recent book being The Artist’s Muse: Unlock the Door for Your Creativity.

Betsy  is well known for her “Creative Challenges”  in the Watercolor Magazine.  Each month for about 18 months, she presented a creative challenge and published the results submitted from artists who responded to the challenge. Karen Kierstead Miller, one of the Chelsea Painters, was among them.

Chelsea Painter President Sandy Knapp said  “I’ve never seen so many wonderful pieces of work come out of a workshop.  Betsy certainly challenged each of us and stretched us to explore new possibilities.   The results were truly amazing.”

Chelsea Painters are always trying to find ways to stimulate growth in their members. One of the ways they have chosen to do this is provide the opportunity for yearly workshops with nationally known art instructors to present different approaches and artistic philosophies to the group.

  1. Hey Y’all,

I’ll never forget that workshop. It was great fun for me, also. I will be in Traverse City at the Art Center in June, so check it out if you’d like another challenging workshop. By the way, I wrote the Creative Challenge for five years, and those challenges (four years of them are in my book, “The Artist’s Muse.” Hope to see you all in the future.
I bet it has been cold in Chelsea!
Take care, (Hey Sandy…I miss our chicken soup and cheese sandwiches.)
