During their weekly meeting last week the Chelsea Painters had a live model to work from. Members sketched and painted their impressions of the lovely young woman who agreed to sit for the group.
There are several benefits to artists when working from live models. Since a model can’t sit still forever, working ‘in the moment’ forces quick decisions that often allow the artist move outside of logic and put some of themselves in the piece. The finished art often has a spontaneity and freshness that is absent from more thought out pieces. The experience also helps the artist to further develop drawing skills, hand/eye coordination and to step away from their inner critic.
