Janice’s artist statement about her ‘Untamed’ art piece:  “My painting is a comment on the startling effects of global warming, and in particular, is a reflection on the recent devastating fires in Australia. I began this piece with a layer of white gesso, followed by layers of acrylic paint in red, yellow, orange and blue; a wash of diluted gesso was added on top and then while still wet, lines were drawn into the surface with a brush handle revealing the colored layers underneath.”

A bit of history about the Venice Art Center:

Venice Art Center | 390 Nokomis Ave | Venice, FL 34285
Venice Art Center

Local legend has it that artists gathered at the beach to paint in the 1950s when they decided to hold what is believed to be the first exhibit of the works of local artists in Venice at the Venice-Nokomis Woman’s Club in 1956. The show had 27 artists participating and at least 200 people who came to view according to an early newspaper account.

The current mission is “To provide cultural resources to the community and top encourage the knowledge and appreciation of all forms of visual arts”.

Congratulations to Janice for being accepted into this Untamed Exhibit.
