‘Twilight;, Oil by John Copley

John Copley has been interested in art all his life, from the time he painted himself Prussian Blue as a child.

Great encouragement throughout his boyhood led him to the University of Michigan, where he received his Art School Degree in 1969. (During this time, he was briefly a member of Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen…but that’s another story.

Since departing the University of Michigan, he’s worked in many aspects of the arts, including jobs as a sign painter, graphic artist, illustrator, muralist, and backdrop painter for theatrical productions. His work can be seen throughout the University of Michigan, and some of these projects have received national awards.

Currently, he’s concentrating on painting, which is his first love. John’s commissioned paintings can be found throughout the United States and beyond. Most of his work can be seen on this site.

  1. I would love to see more of your work. Is the Chelsea Art fair, June 4-5th, the only event you exhibit your work, or there are more permanent exhibitions where you display your paintings. Are the paintings titled:” Dancers in the Woods”, and “Approaching Storm”, both oil, on sale, or they have been sold already?!

    1. Vesna-

Thank you for your interest in my work! The two paintings you specifically mention have been sold. I will be participating in the Chelsea Painters Art Fair June 4 and 5, and will have new work on display there. I have other paintings in the Domaci Gallery in Rogers City Michigan, and the Side Door Gallery in Dexter Michigan, and those can be viewed on my website under “new” “48198” and “Presque Isle” I hope to see you at the Chelsea fair!
