Chelsea Painters lost a wonderful artist and dear friend this week. Member Jane Farrell passed away on April 20th. Jane was a lifelong resident of Chelsea and an award-winning artist. Art was her life. She worked with monotypes, painting, and photography. Jane’s work has been enjoyed and collected by countless people.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, 901 N. Main St., Chelsea, MI, with her niece, Rev. Kathleen Suggitt, officiating. Public visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Jane was a valued member of Chelsea Painters for many years. We will miss her very much.

Sad to hear about Jane’s passing – but as I knew her -she worked fulfilling her passion. This was a life well lived.
I am so saddened to learn of Jane Farrell’s passing on. She taught several Monotype classes at the Ella Sharp Museum I was privileged to be part of in 2003. Jane’s enthusiasm and delight for her “Jackson 8″ (as she liked to call us) made her the most endearing instructor!
The large Oil Monotype I purchased from Jane hangs in my guest room and has always been a wonderful reminder of her talent as an artist and inspirational teacher. Everyone that met Jane will understand when I say that there is a little less light in the world with her no longer in it.
One of my favorite pieces, Jane named “Celestial Lights”. It is two paintings blended and woven, it looks like an explosion of colors. Jane told me; “God’s heart just bursts into creation”. We will miss her interesting observations and creations.
